Flying is one of the safest modes of travel. But even one accident is one too many. That’s why the WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program was put into effect. WINGS addresses accident causal factors such as:

  • Unanticipated inclement weather
  • Poor navigational planning
  • Lack of proper training

WINGS is more than an awards program. The Pilot Proficiency Program’s addresses the basics. Pilots must maintain currency and proficiency. The benefit is increased safety and stress-free flying. Most importantly, completion of any Phase of WINGS satisfies the requirement for a flight review.  It works by allowing you to select the category and class of aircraft to receive training in and demonstrate your flight proficiency. Keep in mind, that reviewing and refreshing your knowledge is as important as actual flying.
More information about how these subject areas are selected is available on your My WINGS page.

The program encourages on-going training that provides the opportunity to:

  • Fly on a regular basis with an authorized flight instructor
  • Train regularly throughout the year
  • Fly in different seasons and flight conditions

Reviewing and refreshing your knowledge is just as important as actual flying. To meet this goal WINGS provides many opportunities to:

  • Complete online courses
  • Attend seminars and other related events
  • Participate in webinars

There are many credit baring opportunities available. WINGS credit is also provided by many third-party activities. Organizations that actively support WINGs include:

  • AOPA
  • ASA
  • Sporty’s
  • Gleim Publications

Each organization details what activities and credits are available on their website.
